Match report The winner of League 2/3 East was going to be either Liphook or Portsmouth & Southsea. In the event, both teams won fairly comfortably, but Liphook missed out by two points. This means our team will contest the playoff against Bashley II, the 2/3 West champions.
The afternoon didn’t start in ideal fashion as Ville won the toss and chose to bat. At 56 for none in 16 overs, they looked set for a formidable total, but with Keiron and Ben in tandem and some turn available they were soon 69 for 3 after 21 overs. Chris was brought on at the Hospital End and soon dismissed Hudson (77 for 4). Max Goddard, limping painfully, then savaged Ben’s last over to bring up the hundred but was run out to make the score 111 for 5. Without addition to the total Shaw departed and four runs later, another mix-up produced another run out, a direct hit from Jake. Chris then made short work of the tail, aided by a third run out when a Cook slipped over in mid-pitch.
The reply was encouraging and aggressive, with 43 on the board in eight overs before Jack was caught in the covers. Silva and left-arm spinner Cook then put a serious brake on the scoring rate so that 32 were added in twelve overs before the second wicket fell. Alex was out at 84 with 16 overs left and Matt on 53 when brother Tom joined him. Matt was bowled with just five needed, having dominated proceedings and ensured victory which Tom finalised with a boundary.
