Match report I said a fortnight ago that we had no right to expect a partnership of 112 from Matt and Ollie. Today in glorious weather again, they dwarfed their Havant Park alliance with 216 for the second wicket. The pitch was dry and batting was not straightforward, but application and concentration helped solve any problems. Matt’s fifty took 46 deliveries, but he raced to his century in only 83. Ollie took 75 balls overs his half century. The outcome was a formidable total which asked the visitors to scored at over seven runs an over.
They had reached 31 for one in seven overs before their daunting task suddenly became virtually impossible. Jono, with the first three balls of his fourth over sent Spiers, Harding and Barber back to the pavilion, bowling two and trapping the other leg before wicket. Purbrook limped on to 43 at which point, their captain was dismissed by Josh, just to make their task less likely to succeed.
Mengham and Amis then added 27 in 8 overs, but the last five wickets fell for just ten runs, Chris missing out on a second hat trick in the match. We were left wondering when, if ever, we had won a match by over 200 runs.
