Match report Winning the toss skipper Talitha chose to bat. Despite losing her pretty early on, Henry F and Tom played very maturely with soft hands and running as well as we have all year. Both deservedly retired with Tom being first back in the hutch. Harrison crashed a good four but perished soon after. Henry O'H was victim of the only tentative running we saw all evening as he and Harrison played the okey-kokey before taking on a run that would have easily been there had they had the courage of their convictions! This brought debutante Sam to the crease and he belied his inexperience running really well the the returning Tom. Tom drove the final partnership but Sam certainly played his part. The senior man ran byes, wides as well as finding the back wall and neatly played threes for what turned out to be the innings of the match.
With the ball their experienced openers batted well against the tidy Talitha and Harrison. Both they and the number 3 retired leaving Henry O'H to get our first scalp with excellent flight. Harrison kept the pot boiling by coaxing the number 4 to find to Sam's calm hands. With the hard hitting opener back we were in front but by no means home. Due to Tom's crocked knee neither of our usual last over suspects were available - Harrison bowled out and Talitha working hard behind the stumps - so new boy Sam was asked to take the last over. Two dots meant it would take something very special for us to lose. Two thunderbolt fours gave them the remotest of chances but his was snuffed out as Sam grabbed a caught and bowled off a tracer bullet of a strike to seal things for us.
Tonight's game displayed some really good cricket from both well matched sides and from our perspective it showed how much we've learned across the games to date. The running and fielding was as good as we've produced. Great job all.
