Match report Thanks to some outstanding work by the Ageas Bowl groundstaff and much to the surprise of everyone, the game began only half an hour late. Jack had won the toss and chosen to field first.
Jono quickly put the home team on the back foot with a first ball wicket and followed this up by removing Albert in his second over (11 for 2). South and Pardoe then steadied the innings with a partnership of 30 in four overs before Ben had South caught by Tom running in from the mid wicket boundary. Ben’s third over was a wicket maiden during which Metzger was leg before (60 for 4 from 12 overs). There followed a partnership of 86 in eight overs with Broderick doing most of the damage. It was ended by a finely judged boundary catch by Chris with only one ball left of the innings.
In reply, the visitors made a decent start with 34 in six overs. Chris replaced Matt and helped Jack to add 49 in 6 overs. Ollie replaced Chris and three runs later, Jack , who had looked in great form, was run out. He cleared the rope three times from the middle of the whole playing area. 63 were now needed from seven overs and Petrie twisted the knife by bowling Alex and Jake with successive deliveries (108 for 6 from 17 overs). Ollie was out on the last ball of the eighteenth over and the game was up at 120 for 7. Jono made a last defiant gesture by spanking Southon for three consecutive fours. The Academy had won the Plate, but our team gave a good account of themselves.
