Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club T20 v OT’s & Romsey on Sun 18 Aug 2019 at 15:00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report OTs & Romsey fielded nine of their team that beat Sarisbury the day before in Division One, so they were definitely taking this Southern League Plate semi-final seriously. I suspect that the home side were quietly pleased by their opponents’ decision to bat first. Plenty of rain had fallen during the morning so there was likely to be help for the bowlers.
The visitors made a dreadful start and were 28 for six before the twelfth over was finished. All five bowlers had taken a wicket, supplemented by Jono’s fine throw to run out King. Chris had made a steepling skier look routine and Keiron snaffled the best catch I’ve seen him take. Tom George was comfortably the visitors ‘ best batsman at number 8 and with sensible help from Collins and Brown, added 37 from the last six overs.
The home side’s reply started very positively with 22 scored from the first 17 balls. Then Matt was bowled playing back. Two balls later Jack was caught on the third man boundary and OTs had an opening. Dhariwal was the only non spinner on show and Tom and Ollie were happier facing him. They took the score on to 51 when Tom was stumped. Two were added when Ollie suffered a similar fate. Alex joined Jake with 25 needed from eight overs. Neither had scored at that point, but a six from Alex took care of a big chunk of the target and consecutive fours from Jake finished the match with 20 deliveries unused.
So we are shock finalists in the Plate final on 22 September at the Ageas Bowl against Hampshire Academy, having knocked out two Division One teams as well as Fareham from our own Division Three. The day was made even more satisfying by the news that we have moved out of the relegation places due to a defeat for Trojans from which they failed to register a single point. Guess who we are playing on Saturday !
