Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won By 31 runs

Match report A strong U11B side beat Portsmouth by 31 runs but he scoreline makes it sound a lot more convincing than it initially was. Captain for the day Talitha lost the toss and we were put into bat with Henry and Jacob opening up and playing proper cricket shots and getting good value for them as the first pair put on 20 runs off their 4 overs. Next pair was Talitha and Felix. The later playing drives down the ground which had Tim shouting praise from the boundary as the pair kept up the scoring rate. Next pair in was Ollie and MOTM Sam who both ran well between the wickets and put pressure on the field with loud and decisive calling. The last pair in was Will and Tom who showed good intent and finished our innings well on 158.
We began our bowling innings with Talitha getting good shape and a loud LBW appeal only to realise you can’t be out LBW in this format. After this however their skipper put pressure back on us with boundaries flowing and it was a relief to see the back off him after the opening 4 overs. Next pair to bowl was Sam and Henry and both showed very good control with Henry spinning the ball and beating the edge numerous times in his first over. Sam however got the breakthrough we were looking for bowling their number 3 with a beauty of an out-swinger, he bowled a double wicket maiden. The wickets didn’t stop there as Henry went one further to bowl a triple wicket maiden to leave us in the driving seat! Next pair to bowl was Tom and Jacob who after conceding a few early boundaries wrestled back the control with more wickets. Will then took the ball and got his just reward for bowling good areas when he got his wicket. More wickets tumbled as Henry got another wicket in his last over followed by Sam who completed his 5-for with a beautifully bowled delivery. Sam finishing with 3 overs 5-5!!!! A great display of out swing bowling and I'm sure there will be many more 5 wicket hauls to come.
A fun game for all who took part and a good win. Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially thanks to Ken Ferrett for scoring, and let’s finish the season on a high.
