Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 9A v Locks Heath on Sun 09 Jun 2019 at 10am
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won By 19 runs
Match report
A lovely Sunday morning and we welcomed Locks Heath to St James's for a 9 A's game. Sam won the toss and elected to bowl and so it was the visitors who had first go at putting a score on the board. Whilst the early pairs batted well we were able to apply pressure with good straight bowling and were rewarded with two wickets, one for Thomas off a good catch by Elliot and one for Charlie who bowled as well as i have seen him so far this season. More wickets in the later pairs as Thomas bagged another, catching one off his own bowling and Jacob took a good catch to give Luke a deserved wicket. After this it was the Patel sisters show as first Gia got in on the act and then Sanna on debut for the team snaffled 2 in three balls. All in all a great effort and we restricted them to 115 runs and earned ourselves 35 runs for the 7 wickets we took.
Into bat and Gia and Sanna got us off to a great start as neither was out and they ran really well together. Charlie and Luke next and more good running and only 2 wickets lost meant that the score remained in our favour. The tempo went up a notch as Elliot and Thomas ran brilliantly throughout leaving Elliot with top score of the day and Thomas putting in his best batting performance to date which complemented his excellent bowling. The brothers Wheeler to finish off and whilst we lost 3 more wickets in the final 4 overs the boys were able to find the boundary on several occasions and a score of 124 plus the 35 bonus runs compared to their 25 for 5 wicket taken meant that we ran out 19 run winners 159 - 140. Another great display, well done everyone.
