Fareham v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11 on Tue 14 May 2019 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs

Match report After a couple of aborted starts our U11s finally got underway on a sunny and warm evening at Fareham. Batting first Felix and Henry O'H got us up and running with Felix finding a lovely lofted straight drive almost make the rope, while his partner crashed 4 boundaries. So a 28 runs start with just one wicket down. Debutants Oliver P-F and William P were resolute in their defence which wasn't breached until the penultimate ball of their overs, taking us up to 34. Will H found a neat boundary down to third man and Luke played with a lovely straight bat to scamper 3 runs. One bowled and a run out due to a rather hopeful attempted 3rd run were the only blips. Coming to the crease with 53 runs in the bank our seasoned pair of Henry F and Elliott struck plenty of boundaries to rattle the score on for the loss of two more wickets. We closed on 95 which was a great score but had we lost too many wickets? Time would tell.
Starting on 30 (5 runs x 6 wickets) Fareham's openers came right at us enjoying the extra pace but once Henry F found his range the rate slowed and he took a wicket. William P bowled a fine opening maiden and only went for 1 run in his second over too - a great first spell for the club. Luke for the most part too bowled with control and a bit more practice will soon iron out the odd wide. At half way our opponents were well placed with 76 on the board. Enter Henry O'H. A hostile spell that ran to 3 overs saw two batters bowled and the edges beaten regularly. 2 wickets for just 11 runs pulled us back nicely. In between Henry's efforts Will H's nice high action has promise and he will soon have it grooved. After a long wait secret weapon Felix stepped up to take 2 of the last 4 overs. Regular dots from him kept us in the hunt but ultimately we just couldn't find the wickets we needed to haul our score up past them. In the end we found our 3 wickets take us up to 110 against their wickets inclusive 122 total.
A really good game that with a few tweaks (not always going for the big shots, running more positively but sensibly and walking in while fielding) might go our way next time. Well done folks.
