Match report Second match for the under 9A's and another thrilling contest. Skipper for the day Sam won the toss and asked Hambledon to set a score to beat. Bowling and fielding was generally very good and it was great to see an improvement in our backing up from the first game. We were however a little over zealous at times with our throwing at the wickets from close range which made our improved backing up not quite as effective as it should have been. Hambledon finished with 114 runs and we received 30 bonus runs for 6 wickets taken. A wicket each for Ryan, Sam, Thomas and Will and a special mention for Gia who took 2 wickets on debut and bowled exceptionally well after telling me she couldn't bowl before we started.
Into our innings then and we were fairly confident as long as we didn't give away too many wickets. A solid start from Will and Ryan at the top of the order and with no outs from their 4 overs we were in with a great chance. After Gia and Charlie batted and then Thomas and Owen we found ourselves adding 69 to our staring total of 30 to be 99-5 with the final pair going in. This meant that Hambledon's score was effectively 139 and the brothers Sam and Jacob needed to score 41 to win as long as they lost no wickets. They duly produced putting on 42 off their 4 overs including a couple of crunching boundaries from Jacob. Alas it wasn't to be as an unfortunate twist in the tale came with 3 balls to go as a comical mix up led to a run out and a further 5 runs for Hambledon. This meant a narrow 3 run defeat but it has to be said a fantastic effort from all involved. We look forward to the next match against Burridge, lets hope it's another cracker.
