Liphook v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13A on Tue 25 Jun 2019 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 71 runs
Match report
A warm muggy evening and a trip out to Liphook for the 13A's to see if they could continue their recent good form. Sent into bat Tom and James opened up for us and Tom was soon on his way back after hitting a 4 off the 2nd ball he received an absolute jaffa 4th ball up and saw his off stump removed. In came Jack and after a few tentative shots he was soon into his stride with a massive six over cow. James provided good support at the other end and the two of them made batting on a difficult surface look rather easy, the highlight being James's first six that he celebrated like he had just scored an ashes century. Our batting was helped somewhat by some indifferent bowling from Liphook and Jack soon retired with 37 off 31 balls. This brought Harrison to the crease and he and James continued the good work before James retired again with 37 this time off 33 balls. The opposition were starting to look a little dejected and Ryan came to the crease intent on hammering home our advantage. A barrage of boundaries including a big six to match his older brother brought him a quick 37 off of 20 balls in what was without doubt the knock of the match. Harrison made a solid 31 before being caught and Finn added some runs before being run out. All in all a great performance and we ended the innings on 176-6.
Into our bowling then and despite some fine resistance from Ross Seaville. Liphook's shadow county opener we were soon among the wickets. In his third over Tom took two in two balls, the second one especially attracting appreciative gasps from the onlooking crowd. Elliott joined in the fun and took a deserved wicket after shortly before almost taking a great caught and bowled. Harrison turned it plenty and bamboozled the batters to take two wickets and James also chipped in with a quicker one which deceived the batsman. Despite retirements from Ross and Charlie, Liphook were always behind the run rate and our fielding was especially good with some exceptional work by our young tyro Elliott Etherington. This left Ollie Catt to take his first wicket after some good work by Finn behind the stumps and the match was finished with a comfortable win by 71 runs. Well done all.
