Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13A v Sarisbury on Wed 19 Jun 2019 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
After some frustrating cancellations in the last few weeks due to the weather, the 13A's got their season going again with a home fixture against Sarisbury. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, Tom Wheeler opened the bowling and gave nothing away first up bowling a maiden and going past the bat on several occasions. Jack Nay followed suit and when Sarisbury took a risky single to try and get the scoreboard moving Finn was on hand to run the number 1 out. More quick miserly bowling from the opening bowlers saw Sarisbury continue to struggle to score with Tom claming his first after quick work by Finn to stump the number three and Jack castled the number two in emphatic fashion in his second over. After this the wickets dried up and the 4 and 5 batsmen were able to consolidate without ever scoring at a particularly high rate. Elliott, Ryan, Harrison, James, Robert and Jacob all bowled good spells without taking a wicket and eventually the number 4 batsman was able to retire. Back came Tom and Jack for the last 3 overs and more quick accurate bowling saw Tom take out the middle stump of the stubborn number 5, Jack took quick care of number 6 and Tom in the final over castled number 7 to leave Sarisbury on 107-6 off their 20 overs.
Into bat and Tom and James opened up in positive fashion. Tom's innings was prematurely ended by a rip snorting yorker in the second over and this brought Jack to the crease. He departed a few overs later having smashed 33 off 19 balls and put the team into what looked like a winning position. James and Harrison kept the scoreboard moving before James chased a wide one and chipped to point and Harrison was out LBW. Elliott skied one to the wicket keeper and it was down to Ryan who batted beautifully and Finn with a quick cameo to get us over the line with wickets and overs to spare. A good evenings work, Well done everyone.
