Match report A tough ask at the best of times, but taking on a very strong Hambledon outfit with half the team making A team debuts made tonight's game an even greater challenge.
Being asked to bowl, our fielding was initially excellent, with great ground work displayed by all ( a particular one handed swoop by Elliott "the younger" stood out) but despite plenty of good work from the bowlers we did bowl perhaps a few too many four balls. All the field worked hard with everyone contributing and Tom putting in a tidy shift behind the stumps.
A couple of chances went down as they upped the scoring rate but a tidy set from Jacob and the returning Elliott E got things under control and Harrison and Elliott H were rewarded for bowling in the teeth of the storm with deserved wickets.
Set a significant target our openers were faced with a County bowling attack which they repelled very well but found scoring tough. Nevertheless it was a surprise when Elliott missed the worst ball bowled for 5 overs to be bowled ending his resolute innings. Harrison joined James and together they gradually found scoring easier as both found the boundary. With overs running out first James was bowled trying to hit over the top then Harrison got a low one to be LBW. The pair that ultimately saw us to the close, Fin and Ollie enjoyed a late cut and pull respectively to find the ropes. However we ended a long way short.
Despite the defeat I felt all the lads played with real commitment and deserve to be congratulated on a good evenings work. The experience will leave the likes of Ollie's J & C, Jacob, Tom and Elliott E stronger and prove to the more seasoned performers (Elliott H, James, Harrison & Fin) they are more than capable of performing against all comers.
