Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost By 6 runs

Match report Wow what a great performance from the team despite a narrow defeat. From a coaches perspective this was probably in many aspects the most pleasing performance so far this season. We batted first and the team were under instructions to be positive whenever possible and look to back each other up with quick running whenever they could. Despite taking this to extremes on a couple of occasions that ended in unfortunate run outs the boys did this really well. Highlights include a confident debut for Dylan, great running between Elliot and Owen, crunching boundaries for Will and Jacob (x4) and a really well constructed 21 for Sam. At the end of our innings we had scored 107 runs for 6 wickets.
After a really positive batting show we went into field and performed even better. The boys were asked to try and bowl wicket to wicket and back the bowler by being on our toes in the field and backing each other up all the time. We did this fantastically well and gave away the fewest extras we have done all season. Highlights included 2 wickets for a very economical Ryan, a wicket each for Sam and Elliott, good solid bowling from Dylan and Owen, a great piece of brotherly teamwork from Jacob and Sam to force a run out, a sharp take behind the stumps by Will and most especially a great spell of bowling from young Indie who has improved massively in his bowling since the start of the season. On another day we could easily have ended the game with 10 wickets, unfortunately we took 4 and this proved to be the difference as when they added 30 runs for their 6 wickets to their score of 103 their 133 trumped our 107 plus 20 for 4 wickets to equal 127. Such a shame to lose but when you look at how well we played it hardly mattered. Well done everyone.
