Gosport Borough IV v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 13.00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 131 runs

Match report P&S development side win for the first time this season as the colts dominate at Privett Park

An excellent display on a near perfect day saw P&S leave Privett Park with 23 points in a bottom of the table clash.
Both teams came in to the game winless but our competitiveness in other games meant we sat 4 places above our hosts as the game started. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Umar was promoted to opener alongside Gary. The pair were going along nicely until Gary was well caught by the bowler in his follow through. Dinesh came in and made a solid 16 while Umar continued sensibly at the other end, choosing which ball to put away in a flawless innings as he reached his maiden senior 50 in the 16th over. However when Dinesh then Umar fell in the subsequent over, the run rate dropped and only 23 runs came from 13 overs as we lost Guy, Oliie and the skipper cheaply. Only Mo was able to keep the scoreboard ticking over but we still had batting to come and with ten overs left, we knew we could still post a winning score against a young Gosport side. Matt came in and played his usual dynamic game, taking it to the bowlers while Mo's measured batting at the other end saw us increase the rate drastically. With 31 coming from the last 3 overs we posted 199, just missing out on our maximum batting points. Mo finished with an excellent 40* and Matt fell agonisingly short of his half century, stranded on 49*.

With a good score on the board and seeing little to fear in the Gosport line-up, we opened the bowling with our two under 15s. The boys fully justified our faith as the first six overs saw Cam causing problems with his movement one end whilst Ben, playing his first senior game, started like he was Jimmy Anderson. His first 3 overs went for zero, including two wicket maidens, while Cam trapped Taylor LBW for his first senior wicket at the other. After 4 overs Gosport had been reduced to 4/3 and the game was all but over. However, we maintained our discipline and continued to do things correctly. A change of bowling, with the Maliks coming on at each end, provided no let up for the beleaguered home side. Umar took the key wicket of Selman, Cam providing his usual safe hands at square leg, alongside a smart run out off his own bowling. At the other end, Mo was almost unplayable, his figures of 4-3-2-1 making great reading. When the Chairman came into the attack with 46 on the board the job was almost done, and indeed it was Yardy who took the final two wickets as we wrapped up a crushing 131 run away win that moves us into mid table.

Altogether about as good a day as a development side can have - a personal top score and wickets for Mo, half century and wickets from U14 Umar and a superb opening burst from our two U15s. Excellent work lads.//1
MOM: Could have been any of the colts but it goes to Umar for his 52 and 18/2
