THE MIGHTY THREE’S BACK ON TRACK
P&S 3rd’s returned to winning ways with an emphatic 100 run win against Gosport Borough 3rd’s team. Bergy won the toss and elected to bat under a clear blue sky.
We did not get off to the best start and after 6 overs we lost both openers with the score on 13-2. Bergy and Rory steadied the ship, until the former was bowled in the 15th over. Bibek strode out to the middle for us after three playing the last three games in the 2nd team.
Bibek and Rory soon started to increase the run rate and a promising stand of 30 from 6 overs was broken when Rory was bowled by Kitchen for 17. Gosport took full advantage and struck again immediately after drinks, when Kitchen pinned Karthik lbw in the 21st over.
Rueben joined Bibek with us precariously perched at 66-5. The duo dug in with a steely determination to post a challenging total. Rueben was proving to be the perfect foil to the more experienced Bibek by instantly adapting to the match situation with his shot selection.
Bibek was quick to pounce and punish anything loose and the pair assembled a determined and faultless 88 from 19 overs, that was only broken in the cruelest of manners in the 40th and last over. Rueben was run out for 29, when a fierce drive from Bibek was flicked back on to the stumps from his own bowling by Humphrey.
We closed our innings on 154-6. Bibek played a masterful innings on a difficult sticky deck against a slow attack and a heavy outfield to finish on a battling 59 not out.
Connor and Romit opened our bowling and Romit was simply sensational. He ripped the top or der out and took the first five wickets with textbook dismissals. Romit was like a magician with the ball in his hand and he left the batsmen bemused and bewildered. They all left the pitch shell shocked with a vacant look in their eyes.
There were two slips and a gully poised as Romit went through his repertoire of deliveries. Willow at first slip reacted like a Venus Flytrap taking two sharp catches and the remaining three victims were bowled. The batsmen simply had no answer to Romit’s in and outswing and movement off the pitch. Romit finished with 5-9 including 3 maidens from his 8 overs.
There was no reprieve for Gosport’s batsmen as Karthik and Willow took up the attack. They sliced through the remaining 5 wickets between them. Once again Karthik was in fine form and finished with 3-14 from his 8 overs. Willow took 2-18 as Gosport were all out for 54. Nine out of the ten wickets were either bowled or caught behind the wicket, with the remaining one caught at point.
It was a devastating display of bowling by our quintet of seam bowlers and it was a crucial win to get our promotion challenge back on track. We go into our next game against Compton full of confidence and it’s time for The Mighty Three’s to go on the charge.Bring it on!!!!
