Match report A must win match started well with Jack winning the toss and opting to bat on a dry pitch. Jack and Matt got us off to an excellent start with 50 off the first 10 overs before Jack was adjudged LBW. The pace slowed but we had 3 partnerships of 42, Ollie and Matt, 29 Matt and Chris and 38 Chris and Tom and at 161 -3 with 10 overs left a score of 225 and maximum batting points was the target but the all too familiar collapse saw us lose 5 wickets for 6 runs and suddenly 175 was looking doubtful. Ben and Jono steadied the ship and a partnership of 30 took us to 197 and eventually onto 202 all out which on a turning pitch was a solid score. Matt took the batting honours with a mature 59 and Chris batted sensibly during the middle overs. We needed to produce an accurate start and Jono and Mo certainly did that and Purbrook were reduced to 25 - 3 after 10 overs. A partnership of 82 then put Purbrook in the driving seat but a superb spell of off spin bowling from Ben, 2-19 in 10 overs and a bit of a mixed bag from Tom, 4-50, saw Purbrook lose 6 wickets for 33 runs and put us well in the driving seat. James, Tom and Chris took two important catches each and Jack snared a beauty at slip. On a turning pitch with same variable bounce Alex kept really well with no byes and good hands. A last wicket stand of 19 delayed the finish but we eventually ran out deserved winners by 43 runs and more importantly secured our safety for another season. well done guys you came good when you needed to and now the T20 day out at Ageas will be much more fun!
