Match report A heartbreaking finale to this match saw Keiron fall victim to the fourth lbw decision of the innings with 3 needed to win from the last over and Jack would have been on strike. Jack had played brilliantly. I can remember only one mistake, a skier which fell safely. He had come to the crease at an unpromising 34 for 3 and nursed the innings to the very brink of victory. He judged the pace of his innings with great skill and did not deserve to be on the losing side. Matt had played an attractive but all too brief innings. The situation worsened when Alex perished to make the score an even less promising 62 for 5. Dean then helped Jack add 37. Jake did a similar job as 42 were added. Ben then joined Jack in reaching the only 50 partnership of the innings before Morris removed both him and Jono in the same over, both with full tosses. Enter Keiron with 40 needed. The impossible soon became possible and then probable as the score crept upwards, but disappointment was just round the corner.
Earlier, Hambledon had won the toss and while their third wicket pair had been together, looked like posting a large total, but with 95 added, Bond was caught behind, one of Alex's four victims at 152 for 3. At this point, their innings lost momentum and 230 seemed like good work from the bowling side. Ben recovered from some early rough treatment to take five wickets. I think this was the first time he had managed this.
We took ten points from this match, but Fareham took 21 from their game with Trojans, to keep us in ninth place.
