Match report Contrary to pre-match form and lacking both Jake and Chris, P & S completed a comfortable win over Purbrook, with almost twenty overs to spare, and in the process, leapfrogged Fareham into eighth place and out of the relegation places.
Purbrook chose to bat, but with the new ball swinging, were soon in trouble. When Jono was taken off after 14 overs, the visitors had limped to 22 for 3. Matt bowled unchanged and deserved more than his one wicket, having beaten the bat on numerous occasions. Hamson and Dorset’s McCoy batted carefully, putting on 39 for the fourth wicket. This was the highest partnership of the innings and despite Harding’s efforts. Matt W and Keiron kept the pressure on, but the last five wickets fell while Ben was bowling, three of them run outs and one a stumping by Tom, deputising as wicket keeper and doing a good job. Five catches were also held (two in the slips) and the scorecard suggests a good fielding performance. However, it was arguably the least impressive of the season so far.
156 was not a daunting target, but nobody was counting their chickens and Shaun left in the second over with 11on the board, after one crunching cover drive. Chris and Matt added 36 in 9 overs before Matt was caught skying the lively Dean. The same bowler accounted for Chris, unluckily bowled off his elbow (68 for 3). Jack and Ollie added 30 at four an over, but Jack and Tom were dismissed by Mengham from consecutive deliveries and at 98 for 5, Purbrook scented an opportunity. However, with Ollie looking secure and Dean showing clear improvement, a partnership of 48 was built in less than seven overs. Dean was out with 11 needed from 22 overs and the game was up for the visitors.
