Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B v Liphook on Sun 08 Jul 2018 at 10am
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report So a real mix and match team today which included half a team of U9-11s however this did not stop P&S putting in the best bowling and fielding performance we have seen from the U13s all season.

Pre-match talk consisted of telling the boys to ensure they put every effort into their fielding including backing up and walking in, it clearly worked as there were only 4 boundaries hit by Liphook in their 20 overs and not 1 over throw. Ryan Nay (U11) and Elliott (U10) opened the bowling and with Elliott bowling a maiden they had only scored 5 off the 2 overs. They continued bowling with the same accuracy keeping Liphook to 11 off 4. The 'Harrisons' came in next, both giving away next to nothing and also looked as if they would take the first wickets narrowly missing the stumps more than once plus a couple of LBW appeals.

The rest of the bowlers were superb, Lochie (assisted by Harrison Milnes safe hands!) and Robert both taking wickets, Ged and Henry kept the runs low in both their overs. The fielding from everyone was spot on, the whole team were vocal throughout and listened to the skipper at all times meaning the fielding positions were kept to and everyone stayed lively even in the heat which paid off! Alfie was excellent behind the stumps, stopping almost everything that came his way and took a quick run out towards the end of the innings. Our 4th wicket came from skipper Harrison on the penultimate ball of the innings helped by a relatively straight forward catch by his brother Elliott (imagine if he had dropped it!!). Liphook were kept to 82 runs so even with us having a much younger team out it was certainly a total we could chase.

Harrison E and Ryan opened the batting (the 'dream team' united again from last season according to Ryan so we were hopeful they would do well) . Well fortunately 'dream team' it was, they batted superbly scoring 66 runs between them in 39 balls, only 9 of these dot balls and they hit 13 4s. Ryan hit a 4 to end the match putting him on 36 and Harrison finished on 30 not out. Both boys would have retired a lot sooner if they hadn't faced so many wides in the few overs they faced.

A big thanks to Sid Penney who fielded for Liphook plus Harrison M and Ged who also helped them out. Also get well soon to Oscar who had an overnight stay in hospital last night, we missed you today and hope you are back soon!

We are away to Liphook on Tuesday for our last 13s game of the season, let's hope we end on a performance like todays . . .
