Steep v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B on Tue 19 Jun 2018 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
An exciting game that went down to the wire.
Small boundaries, with a quick artificial pitch and lightening outfield meant runs flowed throughout. In all 20 overs we only managed two wickets. Those went to the deserving Elliott and Alfie, who's figures were the best of the evening. Left to chase 135 we needed some good performances with the bat.
Tom and Harrison both found the ropes but were perhaps guilty of trying to force things rather than playing balls on merit when they perished. Oscar clipped a four before being bowled but we lost Alfie first up. All the while Elliott was moving along very nicely. The straight six he hit just before retiring was as good a shot as we've seen all year and some of his carefully placed and timed fours were great to watch too. His retirement left Lochie and Ged together and they were defending well. However scoreboard pressure was building which brought about Ged's run out. Fin's remarkable season of retirements or blobs continued. Unfortunately for both him and the team it was the worse of the two this time out. So in strode Jack to join Lochie. With 40+ needed and only two wickets left there were lots of things to think about. However we made it home with Jack the last man standing. Although Lochie was caught before the end, his two boundaries, along with some byes, allow Jack to stroke and biff the ball the rope 8 times and see us home. Jack's choice of the balls to hit and where to hit them was a lesson some of his team mates could heed.
As ever, everyone played a part in our victory. Well done folks.
