Havant B v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B on Tue 12 Jun 2018 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Hoping to bounce back after last week's blip, our 13s had the perfect start to this one. Jack was on the money first ball clipping off stump to send back their opener. With short boundaries and a good response from their numbers 2 & 3 they built well to be 80 odd for 1. However, once we had got through their other opener (two short of what would have been a deserved retirement) the run rate dried and wickets came. With Jack the pick, taking three, both James and Harrison were tidy going at less than 3 an over and taking a wicket each. All the other bowlers provided challenges with Tom's pace and length quick and full he was perhaps most unlucky to go wicketless. Fin had a good day behind the stumps taking a catch as did Oscar (although off a no ball). While not in the coaching manual, Oscar and Rob took opportunities to show their footballing skills and Ged and Dan chased enthusiastically all innings. A mention for Harrison who as skipper manoeuvred his bowlers and fielders confidently with an eye on game time and the situation.
Set 109 to chase we were hopeful, if not assured, of a win. Fin mainly pulled but also cut and drove his way to a quick retirement and Daniel's new found compact hitting provided him with boundaries both straight and over cover which were nominees for shots of the day. James languidly flicked his first ball for four over square-leg but perished next ball reaching for a wide. Ged ensured we didn't get becalmed by rotating the strike well and Jack stroked a couple of classy boundaries before holing out to cover point. There followed a great passage where the relatively inexperienced Robert and Oscar picked the right balls to score off and ran confidently. With us almost home Rob offered square leg a catch to allow Tom to hit is one ball for four and a couple of wides to see us over the line. Well played all.
