Match report With a number of players away on school trips, we took a pretty inexperienced side to an initially soggy Havant Park. Cloud bursts meant we had a delayed start and a contest reduced to 15 overs per side.
After being inserted, Harrison and Tom saw us to a steady start with Harrison taking a boundary from their U11 District opening bowler. However that same bowler took his revenge and bowled our man shortly after. In the company of skipper Elliott, Tom batted like a man possessed. Initially pulling to leg then driving through cover and point, his boundary count rattled up. His deserved maiden retirement at 30* brought Henry to the crease and while he lost Elliott, to a well held catch at deep cover, he built his innings very well. With Talitha running confidently too, Henry moved from singles to striking fours. After a valuable contribution, Talitha was finally bowled and was soon followed by Sid who got the ball of the day that crashed into the top of off stump at a real lick. With overs running out Felix replaced his sister and scampered along with Henry who remained unbeaten at the close for an excellent 21.
Chasing 93 to win their opening partnership was solid with another U11 District man the main aggressor. When he retired we started to gain a foot hold. Sid opened our wickets column taking a wicket off the last ball of his tidy over and Henry provided the remarkable figures of 1wicket for no runs conceded to go with his batting heroics.
All our bowlers went close to making other breakthroughs. As happens some nights a few catches, that will be taken on other evenings, went to ground. These would have given our debutants Ryan and Tristan (and old head) Elliott something to show for good displays. With some lusty hitting later on Havant got to their target with a ball more than 2 overs to go.
Considering the age and experience of our side I was very pleased with our performance. It all bodes well for games and seasons to come - well done all.
