Match report Sporting their new Brynwell's sponsored match tops and greeted by a helicopter on the outfield (see the attached video) it was an exciting start to the U11A season.
Winning the toss skipper Ryan chose to bowl against a side containing a mix of District players and some players taking to the field for the very first time. A tidy start from Ryan and Harrison might have been even better but for three tough chances being grassed off Harrison's tight bowling. The introduction of Elliott saw his first delivery castle his man and he followed that up in his next over with a second scalp. Henry spun the ball well before Felix found his radar to tempt their top scorer to hole out to Harrison's safe hands (two runs before what would have been a deserved retirement). Sid's bowled with great accuracy and was unlucky to see a further couple of catches go down. All the while Tom was impressing behind the stumps - particularly with his leg side takes. Roman tested the batters defence bowling straight and in his second over got the reward of a wicket for his efforts. After initially struggling to find some grip in the greasy surface Talitha settled to her usual tight lines and good lengths (at a decent pace too) to pick up a couple of late wickets and see them close on what we hoped was a gettable total.
In the face of some really testing bowling we lost our gun bat's Ryan and Elliott, with only two runs between them,. That made things tricky but Harrison took the game on finishing our top scorer. Tom cracked a couple of solid fours while round him Roman and Henry held up the oppositions charge for wickets all the while picking up runs via extras. When they each had been bowled by the returning openers with still 10 runs to collect things were starting to get a little nervy. However, Talitha and Sid survived everything thrown at them to get us home. A good start, well done all.
