Match report What a difference a day makes and what a way to sign off our home season.
Late pull outs left us playing with only 7. Kindly Burridge offered us a fielder - but "unkindly" asked us to field first ;-)
Our bowling performance mixed the sublime with the....... not so sublime, rather like our fielding . Ball of the day was Umar's swinging leg stump yorker. Wickets were shared around and all the boys kept encouraging each other, the energy was great to see. Despite our efforts however the missing fielder and the "not so" portion of our bowling left us with an apparent mountain to climb, being set 182 to win.
Locked in a battle for the Most Runs Gong, Davo (221) and Tristan C (226) opened up and despite their records only managed 5 runs off the first over to put us behind the rate! The next few overs soon addressed the balance as Alex drove, pulled and lofted his way to a quick retirement and Tristan cut and pulled his way back to the hutch too. Freddie (in pole position at the start with 228) wasn't to be left behind as he settled with singles then exploded with boundaries all around the ground. Before we knew it, he was the 3rd retiree. With us just over half way through our overs we were striking at well over 10s and in the box seat. Umar seemed to deal only in boundaries and it was a surprise when he smashed one back to mid on to be our first wicket to fall. With 20 still needed, 3 wickets in hand and their gun bowler on, this was a key moment. However we had no need to worry as Lenny found the ropes at key times and so did his partner, Tom. A brace of fours for Tom finished it in the 14th(!) over.
Well done folks, that was the batting display of the season. And the chase for bragging rights goes into the last game at the end of the month...........
