Gosport v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 15B on Mon 30 Jul 2018 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report A long postponed match that turned out to be well worth waiting for! With both sides missing key players a lot was asked of the remaining senior heads on both sides and as it turned out ours, on balance, had the better of things.
Losing the toss we were fielding again and they built carefully initially but expanded through the later stages of the innings. Lenny got us of to a steady start in his most controlled spell with the pink ball while Joel's tidy set brought him a wicket and Alex's offies the same. Again Stan was our most effective taking two thanks to simple catches in the covers. Their number 5 struck the ball well and got us scampering around in the field - with Teddy collecting a couple of real rockets and Alfie, Harrison and Tom putting in good shifts too. On a bit of a two paced track Tristan again was byeless.
Although set 158 to chase, we weren't daunted as we've chased similar scores a number of times this year (albeit this time without Freddie and Umar).
With a Southern Premier Cricket League bowler operating from one end Joel and Tristan C looked in little trouble until Tristan's quest for the "Top Gun" batting award faltered with a mis-timed cut. Joel none-the-less kept us in it with resolute defence and great striking when the opportunity arose. At the other end Davo did what he's done most of the season and crunched the ball all around the ground, a towering straight six was the pick. With a retirement calling Joel's inning was curtailed by their other SPCL man. With us going at the required run rate Alex retired and Lenny entered the fray with more than 60 still needed. Finding boundaries at key moments Lenny certainly played his part before being run out selflessly trying to get Stan back on strike. The key to us getting over the line though was the senior Mr Nay. Farming the strike we kept the score within reach although a fine leaping bit of one handed fielding denied him a penultimate over straight six that would have made the last over more comfortable. As it was, with Tom gliding a single from the first ball and running hard the rest of the over he provided the perfect support. More boundary heroics from Gosport meant we needed 7 off 2 balls. With all but the keeper and bowler on the line Stan pulled the penultimate ball for a huge six dropping beyond two converging fielders. With the scores level Tom hared home to the danger end for the leg-bye to win it for us.
A very satisfying end to the season and the U15 careers of the Tristan's and Alex - good work boys. The season's round up will appear in the News section soon but a 3rd Place League position and Cup Play-off berth was a good return for all who played their part. Thank you.
