Match report After opting to bat, despite being beaten on the outside edge a number of times, Le Clerq & Bond's opening partnership of 106 laid an excellent platform. Although perhaps not being at their best, our spinners enjoyed a brief period when we took 3 quick wickets but the aggressive Glanfield and wise old head Chakrabati heaped increasing pressure on our fielding. This pressure and the heat looked to have got to us somewhat as we became increasingly ragged through their unbeaten partnership of 101.
At tea there were mixed views as to how good a score of 227 was.
We started very comfortably with Matt particularly severe in Glanfield's 3rd over. Unfortunately Jake crocked himself diving to get back after a running mix-up and couldn't last much longer so their partnership of 35 was booked. With the overseas man, Beagley, sending down thunderbolts the scoring rate fell. With us 2 down, seam was replaced by spin and although Matt took Turner's first over for 12 the ex-Hampshire man later reeled off 3 wicket maidens. The first of which included Jack to end our best partnership of the afternoon (42).
All the while Matt was at the crease, playing beautifully, there was hope. That effectively died as he picked out long on 8 short of three figures with us still 80 runs adrift. The tail worked hard to get us two more batting points but at 180 following an immaculate leg-side boundary from the skipper's bat he was castled to bring things to a close.
With the exception of a Lymington win, the sides below us all lost so didn't compound the day's disappointment. Nevertheless, a couple of big performances in our last 4 matches will help the nerves.
