Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI v Hambledon on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 12:30
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
What a strange game this was; Hambledon winning despite a top score of 26 and P & S failing to reach 139 despite being 87 for 1 with 28 overs left.
There’s was a strong smell of dampness across the ground during most of the game. Keiron won the toss and, not surprisingly, asked Hambledon to bat first. They reached 32 before Jake made the breakthrough in the tenth over. Hambledon were looking comfortable at 73 for 2 with 23 overs to go when Bond spooned a simple catch to mid on. The rest of their innings was a procession with only two partnerships in the twenties. The last seven wickets fell for 41. During this collapse, Dan, on his first team debut, found himself on a hat-trick. Keiron and Jono mopped up the tail.
The home team openers raced to 40, hitting seven boundaries before Shaun was bowled in the seventh over. Ollie and Jack added 47 in 17 overs before off spinner Harding accounted for the former. By this time, former Hampshire left arm spinner Ian Turner was operating in tandem with Harding and they caused the middle order to crumble, five wickets falling for 13. Jack and Ben then added 23 in 11 overs to restore some hope for the home team, but the end was brutally swift, the last four wickets adding only 3 runs from 10 deliveries. Jack was last out, caught on the third man boundary trying to win the game.
