Match report The U13a team opened their 2008 account with a strong win against a spirited Sarisbury side. Having lost the toss P&S were put into bat. The boys had a batting strategy of securing a safe score then go for points. Led by Sam Collings-Wells and Seth Jackson, the opening partnership accrued 50 for the first wicket. The side put in a team effort to reach 132-6.
In the field the team went quickly on the attack in the fading light. Ed Hands and Phil Belcher bowled aggressively and were supported by some supreme fielding, particularly from Matt Walker, which appeared to have an intimidating effect and forced Sarisbury into a defensive mode. P&S quickly responded, and with runs in hand, adopted an unusual fielding set up. The tactic paid off and Sarisbury were bowled out in the 19th over for 57 to provide maximum bowling points.
This U13a team has clearly set its sights high and will be an exciting team to watch this season. Batsmen to note were Seth (30 no) and Sam (22) and bowlers were Sam (2-0-4-7) and Philip Belcher (4-0-2-5). However, the winter training programme proved its worth and the team performed very well in all areas (except the long barrier!) with all players contributing to the win.
