Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11 v Sarisbury on Wed 12 Jul 2017 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 1 run

Match report Wow what an exciting match tonight for the Bs. They picked themselves up well from a difficult match on Sunday.

The bowling ad fielding was maybe not as tight as it has been in previously matches with a few too many extras and a few mis-fields and over throws but the team took 7 wickets in total and kept Sarisbury to 72 runs, with a fielder short due to Sid being hit in the head after an attempted caught and bowled so had to come off. Talitha bowled extremely well again taking 2 wickets. A great catch from Oscar on Roman's bowling, wickets for Oscar and Elliott also plus a run out from Henry and a direct hit by Elliott on the last ball of the innings. Some really tight bowling from Noah also.

Henry and Robert opened the batting, unfortunately Robert faced a fair few wides in the 1st over not leaving much for him to hit but they started picking up a few runs, Henry hitting 2 brilliant 4s, 232 on the board at the end of that pair.

Noah and Oscar were in next, they ran extremely well but unfortunately lost a couple of wickets between them. Their batting looked very promising however and they scored 11 runs off the bat between them which was a great job.

Oscar stayed on to replace Sid along with Felix. Felix hit some great singles and looked so much more confident with the bat tonight. Oscar took advantage of a no ball to hit a 4 in the 3rd over helping to rack up the runs but unfortunately they lost 3 wickets between them. In spite of this they pushed the total along to 261 meaning the last 2 pairs needed 12 to win if they could not lose their wicket.

Neko and Talitha were in next, they looked comfortable but faced a fair few wides and tricky balls so struggled to score runs, than ran well when they could but unfortunately a bit of miscommunication resulted in a run out. They still pushed the total ahead to 268 meaning the last pair coming in had to be sensible and just get the last 5 runs for the win.

Sarisbury had saved their strongest bowlers till last, they gave away no extras and bowled well. Elliott and Roman did exactly what was asked of them and played it safe so their run totals were perhaps lower than normal but they ran lots of singles and a couple of 2s to get the extra runs required, unfortunately Roman was caught in the last over taking the score back to 270, with 3 balls to go they needed 3 runs, the first ball Elliott hit and they ran a single, the next ball was a dot for Roman. The boys knew what was needed of them and when Roman hit the ball right next to his stumps they just ran thinking they would either draw or be run out but the fielder could not get hold of the ball then threw it back to the bowler to get the run out but a bad throw meant they managed to sneak in an extra run to win the game.

Again, a great team performance and played in the spirit we have seen all season from these players. They may be inexperienced but they are gaining valuable skills in each and every match and taking on board everything they are told. They are a real pleasure to work with and I couldn't be prouder.

We are hoping to get a final league game in at the end of the month against Gosport to push towards a potential 3rd place in the league and a friendly against Portsmouth if the school holidays allow.
