Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 4th XI v Easebourne on Sat 20 May 2017 at 2.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report The development team bounced back from last week's defeat with a resounding win over Easebourne at Farlington 1.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the game was delayed due to rain for some 20 minutes. The visitors had arrived beer in hand, and once the game started their casual approach didn't change. Opener Nutting chipped to Joel Eastment at square leg in the first over, and the wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Doug Bullen and Mo Malik were putting it in good areas and some of the shots were not good enough for the bowling: Prudente was LBW to Malik for 2, before Bullen clean bowled both Howgidll and Shield. Josh Poole ran out Hogg after he turned for a second run that was never there, before the other opener, who had been the only one to bat sensibly, slapped one to the skipper at mid-off from Joel's bowling. Dad John then came on to take 2 for 5 off 5 overs before Sonny Brooks took a stunning catch above his head at cow corner to skittle the visitors for just 73.

The Smiths opened the batting against Howgidll and Shield, who were not shy in appealing for anything within 2 feet of the stumps. After remonstrating with both umpires (Chis and Sean), Shield did appeal for something worthwhile, trapping Ollie LBW. Tristan Collighan then got a peach of an inswinging Yorker from left-arm over Howgidll, removing his leg stump. Bangers came to the crease with the home side wobbling just a little at 10/2, but quickly hit his straps with some glorious cover drives. Simon was his usual calm self at the other end and the pair began to ease us towards our target. At drinks, P&S were 63/2 needing just 11 to win. Bangers wasted no time as two crashing boundaries brought up the fifty partnership before a straight drive for 2 saw us home.

All in all a top team performance. It was especially pleasing to see the bowlers bounce back from last week's defeat with some fine spells, backed up by some solid fielding. Hopefully we can take the momentum gained in to next week's game as we continue to improve. Well done lads!

MOM: Several candidates again, but for a match winning spell of 10-3-14-3, MOM is Dougie. Top bowling mate.
