Locks Heath IV v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 13 May 2017 at 2.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report P&S development squad slipped to defeat on the astro at Locks Heath 4's Victoria Country Park ground on Saturday.

Put into bat, the visitors started confidently before losing Ollie Smith after a quickfire 12. Tristan Collighan joined Simon Smith at the crease and batted sensibly for 10 overs, before being bowled round his legs. That started a steady flow of wickets as everyone got themselves in but were unable to go on to a big score. The home sides bowling was tight, offering very few freebies and the eagerness to score runs often led to our downfall. Mo Malik (19)batted nicely with good support from the tail, and some heavy hitting from an injured but unbeaten Mani Noor Spencer (20no)saw us finish on a respectable 154.

Unfortunately our bowlers were unable to replicate the host's frugality, and a combination of extras and hittable balls saw the hosts race towards their target, having loaded the top of the order with the experienced adults. The youngsters persevered well, and Josh Poole's adult cricket career got off to the perfect start, removing the opposition skipper for 11 with his first delivery. But when wicketkeeper Masters came to the crease at No 3, he and Bell-Moore (35) saw the hosts almost home before an excellent c&b from Joel Eastment took care of the latter. Sonny Brooks grabbed another wicket, having Jones caught at mid-wicket by the skipper, but it was too little too late and Locks Heath cruised to their target, with Masters finishing 54 not out.

It was an awakening for the lads after last week's comfortable win, but the effort was great and there were still plenty of positives. Locks Heath's decision to put all of their adults at the top of the order may have won them the game, but it did not allow their colts to get a bat. We will continue to mix up our batting to ensure everyone gets to bat, as that is the only way people develop. And as a development squad, that is what we are about. We will always aim to win, but most importantly, we are aiming to get better...UTW

MOM: a nice knock at 11, then a wicket with his first ever ball.. mom is Josh Poole. Well played.
