Match report The sun appeared much earlier than forecast which meant that P & S, asked to bat by Shrewton, began their innings on a drying pitch. The bounce was less reliable than usual. This necessitated a higher degree of caution in the early overs.
The first bowling change signalled acceleration for Jack and Matt who added 93 for the second wicket in only 13 overs. Jack's dismissal brought temporary relief for the visitors, Brewer's first five overs of off spin costing just 18. However, the Benfields were soon up to speed and their partnership of 118 was made from 21 overs. Matt's first century of the season was made from 88 deliveries.
The third major partnership was remarkable for its impact. Jake joined Ollie at 255 for 5 with six overs remaining. Together, they added 60 from 26 balls, McClure being the main sufferer. Ollie's hyperactive running and wonderful timing were exactly what was required.
When Shrewton were 34 without loss from four overs, 332 did not look quite so imposing, but once Matt made the breakthrough, wickets fell regularly. The highest partnership from the visitors was 44 for the fifth wicket and this was their downfall. Keiron was back to his best and both he and Ben benefited from some excellent catching, particularly by Shaun.
Maximum points were secured with nearly 18 overs to spare. Unfortunately, all the top six teams won.
