Match report Restricting a good Havant side to 122 was a job well done. Our opening bowlers, Joel & Jack, kept a lid on things (prompting my fellow scorer to ask me to record his lad as Boycs!). I wouldn't of course dain to comment on the opposition..... Anyway, just before "Boycs" retired for a tidy hand, Lenny tempted the other opener to flap one back which he gratefully snaffled. While extras kept the board moving we had a purple patch as Callum hurried one through the number 3 and Jack produced a good one to find the edge of 4, which Alfie collected with the minimum of fuss. Number 5 injected some urgency in the running and although he perished late on, run out, gave them the impetus to collect maximum batting points.
At halfway I felt we had a chance. Lenny and Joel took us to 30 odd without loss and after Lenny was bowled Joel soon retired. While we had hardly had the score board rattling before we became rather becalmed. Tight, straight bowling made it difficult but we seemed to lose confidence that simple side wall and running would get us home. I know it's not always possible but if we had hit the side wall on the balls we dotted, we would have been less than 10 short and that's ignoring the times more confident running would have got us 3s. It wasn't until Ben got together with Callum that we looked ready to take them on in that regard and Ben perished knowing we had a man in the hutch. Joel provided a flourish stroking the penultimate ball for 6, just before he became the 3rd bat to fall to a c&b on the night.
Its no disgrace being beaten by a good side but if we learn the skill of batting indoors quickly we'll be well placed for the next few games.
