Winning the toss the skipper deceided to put us in to give our, decent but depleated, bowling attack a score to defend. We started steadily as Dan and Simon gave us a 131 opening partnership. Dan passed 50 again but Simon fell two runs shy. Their tidy start through the first 25 or so overs allows Sherm and Tim to really press the gas and their 80 run partnership came at a gallop. With a bet on that we could reach 300 OJ & the skipper swashbuckled us towards the magic figure. Alas the final ball of innings needed to go for 6 but we could only manage half of that. It goes to show that with a good base and wickets in hand anything is possible as we collected 150 off the last 15 overs.
With the pitch a feather bed with little pace we knew taking wickets would prove difficult and so it was. Our endeavours weren't helped by Denmead not looking to chase the score but rather just hang in there. All the guys bowled with every effort but it was not to be. The moment of the match was undoubtedly the Flying Smith (Simon that is) at square leg leaping like a salmon to pluck a pulled ball from the sky. With 5 or so overs to go the heavens opened which quickened the pitch up appreciably and Deano and Roy started to look menacing. Had the rain come earlier we might have made more headway but hey ho. Another win and an exciting match scheduled for next week as we take to the high seas.
