Loosing the toss made little difference since we'd have put them in anyway and our tight bowling got us onto the right track straight away. Doug and Matt bowled descent lines with Matt particularly proving unhittable. His inital 7 over spell going for 7 runs with 6 of those wides! With them one down and only going at 2 runs per over, enter the "Goose Hack" (as Roly once christened him). Roy's fine spell saw him swinging it and cutting it both ways which virtually took him to a five-for - (it's OK Doug I won't mention it). In his last game before going home Chris Rippin bowled with pace on a lifeless track and proved he'll be missed. Some excellent running and selective hitting from their no.s 8&9 took them up to 145 and for the first time this year we weren't able to bowl a side out.
Missing our regular openers, messrs Rippin & Smith got us off to a decent start and on a track that was slow and low, kept us well ahead of the asking rate. Simon's demise saw Sgt Major Shaw march to the crease and with regular boundrays from both, he and Chris took us onto 60 odd before Chris was bowled. The skipper joined Matt and for the second week running played sensibly (it can't last!). A pretty much chanceless partnership of 70 odd followed. Matt then politley asked if the skipper could stop hitting boundarys since he was nearing his 50 and wanted to get there. It was therefore with some amazment that the non-striker watched as the, until then, contolled Sherm stormed down the pitch, missed the off-spinner by a yard and got stumped by 2 yards - Doh!! With only 9 needed Tim Joy helped see us home for a comfortable win with 9 overs to spare.
