Match report Our first maximum points haul in the tightest match yet. Winning the toss we put them in on a pitch that was always going to favour the bowlers. We should commend the ground staff here bcause in view of the amount of water around recently we were lucky to play.
As ever we opened with Deano who bowled very tighly with his 8 overs only going for 8 runs and Matt Williams continued to impress with him beating the outside edge on numerous occassions. Our change bowlers, Kes and Chris found it difficult to maintain the strangle hold we had had initally although they both picked up regular wickets. Both showed flashes of star quality but will hope for more consitancy next time out. By the time Matt rapped up the innings OS had scored more than perhaps they should have with us conceeding 47 extras - 39 of which were wides! Well done to Andy who proved to be more Velcro Hellier than Teflon Hellier as he deputised behind the stumps and to Matt Benfield who worked hard in the field all afternoon.
Getting to 150 in the required overs was never likely to be a problem, keeping wickets in hand to do so could have been. So it proved as, despite a quick 17 from Dan, we were on the ropes at 41 for 5. A measured parternship of 60+ between the skipper and Chris calmed things down but with both of them having departed relatively quickly it was left to the Silver Fox and the Flashing Blade, messrs Ward and Wilson to see us home. After a couple of slight scares Deano hurried us towards home with a six and four off consecutive deliveries and with scores level Keith cracked the winning boundary.
A good result from a fixture that could quite easily have gone the other way.
