Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI v Ellingham 2 on Sat 18 Jul 2015 at 2pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won By 29 Runs
Match report
The captain did his job and actually won a toss at St James. The track looked good again and didn't disappoint. Cheers Ray!
Rogers really looked good early and his mis timed pull was a real shame as it looked for all money that he might go big against a side regularly dropping too short. This did however bring Ryan and Sayeed together again and another 100 runs partnership blossomed with Ryan this time the main aggressor in his 59 that again showed how talented the lad is. Need you on the park more mate!! After being dismissed caught and bowled Sayeed played the anchor role and continued to put the bad ball away and with two overs to spare got within 5 of his hundred. Sadly (for me and him) a misjudged two saw him run out for 96, and despite everyones disappointment he had fallen short of 100 again it was a marvellous innings. Ollie then came in and Ran me into an early grave to see us amass a magnificent 271-4. Batting really has transformed since the Bashley debacle. Well done everyone.
Defending that was likely but the deck was flat and got flatter second half and the old ball offered us nothing. But Rich and Dan bowled with good control but it was that mad Harlan Randall who again got the breakthrough with his trademark inswinging Yorker and Ryan then got the ball turning to bag a couple too in a cracking spell. We had real control of the game and when Jez nipped in with a wicket and they were 5 down and seemingly a beaten side. But with P and S down to nine men in the field a couple of blokes chanced there arm and the ball disappeared to all parts. Jez had his great spell ruined, Harlans figures took a bash as did Dans, and so we turned to Collier to lead the recovery. Three wickets in as many overs did for Ellingham and when Harlan nipped out his 3rd the game was won. Final wicket a cracking catch from Ryan on the Boundary to go with an excellent one in the deep from Ian as well. Fielding was much improved this week and another superb result. Keep it up boys!
