Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI v Suttoners on Sat 23 May 2015 at 2pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 15 runs
Match report
A quite fantastic win that was as epic as last seasons Hythe run chase. We were dead and buried more than once in this game but everyone fought to the bitter end, personified by Steve Clements brilliant 87 that held a stuttering innings together. The Top order clem aside was largely blown away by a strong suttoners bowling attack.. Phil dug in well and was unlucky to be out LBW and Rich looked in great touch before he was bowled by a beauty. Doug and Toby both tried to play there shots and took a few blokes from the quick and bouncy Barber and then Clem and Harlan had a gem of a partnership that took us to that crucial 175 mark. We knew from 110-7 they had let us off the hook but on a good pitch we needed every ounce of commitment we could muster to get home.
In a change of tactic, Harlan and Toby took the new ball this week and bowl kept the first 10 extremely tight and we were rewarded with Suttoners 30-2 early on. Clifford kept going Dutton looked good and as Suttoners made it into the 90s we hadn't struck again.
Enter Daniel Turner with a wonderful spell of bowling. He bowled with good pace and movement to rearrange the stumps of Dutton to prompt huge celebration and then next ball struck again with another clean bowled and it was game on once more. Ben then bowled his best spell of the season and the game had completely turned. 90-2 became 116-8 and then 130-9. Ward looked a real good player but he ran out of partners as Randell took his chance in style. 4 balls left at number 11 of his spell and with the 3rd cleaned him up. The comeback was complete and a fantastic team performance was rewarded with a great result. Well done everyone.
Quick Word for Ian Rogers - You will be missed out there mate. Chin up lad.
