Match report The last B team game of the season, and we were treated to a thriller. Having lost Dan to a sickness bug in the afternoon, we were a man down, the opposition randomly selected Sonny to bat twice. A rejigged batting order saw Theo and Ben open up. Theo set the tone pulling the first ball for four and crashed four more boundaries in a fine knock, ably supported by Ben, we were off to a great start. After an early run out Stewart joined the party crashing two fours, as he and Marcus kept up the momentum.The next pair were all out of luck, Henry and Alex falling to 3 fine catches and a straight one defeating Alex as well, in between they scored and ran well and Henry added to boundary tally. Sonny and Aquib restored the calm with some sensible play, and Robbie crashed a boundary, but the fireworks were still to come as Sonny 'did a Henry' scoring two fours and two sixes from the last 5 balls of the innings to get us up to 314.
Skipper Henry took responsibility in his stride setting a sensible field and then bowling a great couple of overs and picking up an early wicket, at the other end Marcus also hit the stumps, to get us off to a great start. Robbie and Stewart kept the pressure on and were unfortunate to see the ball hit to the boundary a couple of times. Mr reliable Aquib found his usual line and length and after taking a while to find his line Ben bowled a good second over. Theo and Marcus started with two good overs and with 6 overs left 45 were needed. Amidst all this Sonny was excelling again with the gloves, some great takes down leg side in particular. Unfortunately at this point we lost our line and a series of wides and some crashing boundaries saw Portchester move a run in front with two overs left. Quick thinking from Aquib saw us pick up a run out and Henry was left with the last over needing at least one wicket, sensible batting from Portchester though saw them home by 9 runs.
A fantastic match to finish the season on, we were unfortunate again to be just on the wrong end of the result, a couple of tough chances were spilled and a couple of misfields on a bumpy outfield, but that would be picking at a great team performance when fielding a man short. Great to hear all the encouragement, advice and support in the field, and good to see Henry taking a commanding role as skipper.
Well done all, a huge amount of progress over the season.
