Match report For the second time this season we were well beaten by a good Burridge side. On a good wicket and fast outfield, Henry in his first game as captain elected to field. It was perhaps a sign of things to come when the first ball of the match saw Marcus injured whilst making a diving stop, and despite hobbling through his two overs he soon had to come off. It wasn't our straightest bowling display of the season but credit to Burridge who batted sensibly and played some good shots. After a good start by their opening pair, Henry put the brakes on with a maiden and went on to rattle the stumps twice. Ollie claimed a good LBW, but we struggled to contain the batsmen who were regularly finding the boundary. Stewart bowling 'Boycott style' with his cap on, bowled a great second over and was rewarded with a wicket. Highlight of the innings was Ben coming in off the boundary to take a great catch off Robbie. Theo found the stumps in his spell, but despite some generally tidy fielding we were left with a stiff target of 326 to win. Special mention to Sonny who in his first game, took the keepers gloves and gave an assured display only conceding two byes.
Batting, we never looked likely to achieve the target, but it was good to see improved calling and running, and nobody run out. Shot selection was also improved, but we still heard our stumps rattle 7 times, so still some work to be done. Good to see Ollie, Robbie, Sonny and Kyle all get through without being dismissed and both Henry and Theo managed back to back boundaries. Sonny and Alex added 20 runs in their partnership picking up plenty of singles with good calling.
So in summary a heavy defeat, but we are a young improving side and plenty of positives in terms of our fielding and running between the wickets which weren't there a couple of games ago. If we can reduce the number of wides, and be more careful when facing straight balls then we can improve further.
