Match report While a good game, it was a disappointing end to a season that has had some real bright spots.
Winning the toss we chose to bowl and had them 2 down by the 8th over with only 11 on the board with a wicket a piece for Con and Harlan. For a period then they took the game to us but were bought back in check as Sathish bowled an excellent spell picking up a wicket and another from J Dog with the help of the skippers safe hands. Harlan's come back overs bought him a further 3 wickets and but for a lick of paint would have had a second 5 fa. The spell nailed him on as the seasons top wicket taker at an average of less than 7! Outstanding from an U13. At the other end another U13, Harry DM, bowled with maturity finishing with extremely tidy figures for a death bowler and might have had a wicket to show had J Dog not done a "Herschelle" and "dropped the world cup". Although we bowled a few too many wides and some sloppy fielding cost us we felt 159 was well within our capabilities.
At 79 for 1 at drinks it was ours to lose. Sathish was batting with great élan and Ollie K batting compactly. However when we lost Ollie to an interesting LBW and saw the innings of the match ended when Sathish was well caught in the deep things stalled rather. Their skipper, bowling as slowly as it is possible to do, (think Chis on Valium)and a decent left armer made it difficult to score. A terrific back foot shot through the covers from Ollie S was probably shot of the match but soon he, Dimash, Sean and J were back in the hutch. With the pressure mounting Mark's skippers innings ended with him trying to force the pace and when Con played across a straight one we needed 21 off 3 overs with 2 U13's at the crease. To their immense credit Harlan and Harry hit and ran well but they had been left with just too much to do as we pulled up just 2 short.
