Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 19 runs
Match report
A good result with a 10 man side after the old croc player manager pulled out on the morning of the game. Undeterred, skipper Bergy chose to bat. Playing through heavy showers the pitch was quick and bouncy and was well handled by both Ben and Khaled. A direct hit run out did for Khaled but the young pair of Ben and Ollie built well. When Ben feathered a short ball behind Simon and Ollie saw us through to drinks. The drinks break did for Ollie for the second time in two weeks as he tried to go over the top and was well caught at mid off. Bergy and Simon then settled in and started to accelerate finding the boundary more regularly. When the skip holded out off a skyer Sam joined Simon and surviving a couple of close LBW shouts started to find the middle convincingly. Just before departing stumped, Simon struck the shot of the day flicking the ball over square leg for 6. Just before close Ben was bowled and Jim and Connor got us to 148.
With the ball, Darryl started as if he was still on his bike but Connor found his lines and lengths perfectly but had no luck. A quick introduction of Asif brought dividends almost immediately as he got a Yorker through. He was in the action again when a slower ball was neatly snaffled at midwicket by Ollie. Asif's deserved 3rd came thanks to Simon grabbing an edge behind. At the other end Connor and later Khaled bowled with menace with Khaled bowling with no luck, mixing up his arm balls and wicked ripping spinners. New boy Sam initially struggled with his length but soon settled to bowl with pace and grabbed a good caught and bowled. By this time Darryl was back in the grove and castled two and got the key openers wicket with a full straight LBW. The final wicket to fall went to the deserving Connor who bowled his man having seen 3 or 4 catches put down. In the end we were in no danger of them making the total but we just couldn't winkle out the last couple of wickets.
