Match report Sadly our first defeat
Being put in to bat on a damp track we got off to a strong start with the father & son opening partnership taking advantage of gaps in the field (they had late arrivals) and punishing bad balls. The introduction of their Chinaman bowler ripped a big turner through Sean ending the 66 run partnership. New boy Ed was undone similarly as was Ollie a few overs later having played a good hand. Their slow bowlers (particularly the aforementioned left armer who ended with 10 overs 6 maidens 4 wickets for 4 runs) really turned the screws and the pressure saw us lose 6 for 11 runs. The pressure brought the unfortunate run out of Mark. Bergy looked sound but perished to a decent ball. With last pair Dimash and Ollie S at the crease we saw our 3rd highest partnership (12) as Ollie found the boundary a couple of times.
With just 112 to defend we had to take wickets. As we've come to expect Harlan and Bergy had us on top early taking a wicket apiece (Harland being particularly miserly). A couple of half chances didn't quite go to hand as their numbers 3 & 4 tried to gave it some umptey. While Asif and Dimash each bowled good balls we couldn't get back in control. Ollie S gave them something new to think about but once they got their eyes in he too couldn't contain. A solitary over from Dan saw them close things out with just over half the overs remaining.
We stuck at it well today. However, the inexperienced side will have to learn what to do with slow bowlers on wet tracks and how to keep a lid on extras and 4 balls to be more competitive on days such as this.
