Match report Are we on a roll ? Batting was never straightforward on this pitch which produced a pulsating finish, guaranteed to shred the nerves of all involved. Alton chose to bat and found fluency difficult against good bowling. Their best partnership was 40 for the 3rd wicket in 7 overs, but nobody reached 30. Matt found help from the pitch. His last 7.1 overs produced 3 for 9. Chris returned at the end and was on a hat-trick. 162 looked under par, but this turned out not to be the case.
The visitors' reply did not start well and when Matt B was out, the board read 54 for 4 in 17 overs. Lewis and Ollie batted with a mixture of caution and violence to add 64 in 17 overs but Lewis's dismissal enabled the Alton spinners to gain control. Three wickets in 3 overs brought Jono to the crease to join Rob with 17 still needed from 6 overs and by farming the bowling and choosing the right ball to attack, Rob hit the winning run with 19 balls to spare, after being dropped at deep mid-wicket off a long hop; a mature and crucial innings.
