Match report A good game in which we held our own well but in the final analysis couldn't find an answer to their big hitters.
Winning the toss we opted to bat and something strange happened - Harlan got out - gloving a decent ball behind. Daniel C and Ollie though batted very well against their quick lads to both retire for the 4th consecutive match. Warming to his task Daniel T effected some "enterprising" running before perishing that way. While Henry and Will didn't get going they too ran well in support. After having seen us get a bit stuck in the 11th over Dan C and Ollie ran supremely to take 21 off their Hampshire mans last over. A total of 131 gave us a chance provided we could get through their big guns early.
Things looked promising as Will took a wicket second ball ripping one through their left handers gate. Perhaps pick of the bowlers on the night, although wicketless, Henry reeled off a good 2 overs. This built pressure to allow Daniel C to get us a direct hit run out. This bought a second big hitter to the crease and he proceeded to thump the ball to the back wall before retiring. A second purple patch saw Daniel C drift one past the new man to see Ollie whip the bails off and later in the over castle their number 6. Sadly that was our last success, despite Harlan nearly squeezing a yorker under the bat and being unlucky as a back peddling Daniel C stumbled just before completing a regulation catch. In the end the hitting from one man and the more measured striking from the other proved too good for us and we were well beaten with a couple of overs to go. Nevertheless, there was no disgrace in how we played in this good game. Well done.
