Match report A good start to the season. Winning the toss we chose to bat first and new opening pair of Daniel C and Harlan got us going at 10 runs per over running well with little risk. In his 1st P&S indoor game Harlan retired for a well played 20 and was soon followed by DC who finished his innings with a couple of 4s. A poor call from the non-striker saw the unlucky Daniel T sold down the river but Will and Ollie batted well and got their running together. It's a small point but despite keeping the run rate at around the even 10 they might have scored even quicker had they focused on what they do best, finding gaps. When Ollie retired debutant Henry had no time to build an innings and got a straight one when he was doing the right thing in going for a hit.
With the ball we got off to a flyer. Dan T beat the bat and Ollie's eagle eyes spotted the batter on, rather than behind, the line. Both Dan's kept great lines and us ahead and when Henry fed the keeper to run out their other opener we were going well. Score board pressure and tight bowling helped confuse their running and a couple of run outs for Ollie at the bowlers end, one a direct hit, kept our foot on the gas. The return of DT saw him induce an edge that nestled in the gloves. It was our last success in the wickets column but Harlan closed things out tidily to see us home by 32 runs. It would have been even more convincing but for our extra count - rather as we suffered last year - wides alone contributed over half of our opponent's runs. It will be important to keep a lid on that in later games. A similar performance in the field next time would be welcome, an improved radar when bowling and just a bit more thought in our batting will get us a better score. Small things - well done.
