Match report Our final game of the 2013 season ended with us on the wrong end again. Winning the toss our opening attack of HH & HR were all over their openers, Harlan being particularly unlucky as he saw a ball squeezed onto the off stump with a clunk only for the bail to remain resolute! At 10 overs they were just one down for 36. The wicket courtesy of Daniel C as he got their aggressive opener to find JB at mid on. Thereafter however the runs began to flow (and although we took regular wickets, one due to super one handed take from Daniel C, from Harlan's bowling and others thanks to Kyle & Leggies good hands and a further one due to Will's presence of mind and good arm) the final 10 overs went for over 70 runs.
At half way we were hopeful 118 was an achievable target but a top order wobble and middle order collapse meant it wasn't! Ollie and Harry H both managed to hole out off middled strikes and JB and Dan found themselves at odds in a disappointing run out which could have been avoided. Harry L and George were undone by their quickest bowler while Harlan played on and Daniel T saw another airborne hit nestle in the fielders hands. While all this was happening Dan C was expanding his innings, pulling particularly confidently. He found an ally in Henry who kept out the straight ones and struck the ball firmly when big shots were on offer. When Dan was finally out for 25 Henry took the game on with Kyle playing his part with late cuts and excellent running. With balls running out Henry went for one big one too many and his highly entertaining innings came to an end agonisingly short of his first retirement - the time will come! This left Kyle and Will to see us home which they did at a run a ball. While we ended 30 odd short the tidy knock of Dan C and Henry's later heroics showed what might have been achievable without the earlier mistakes.
While we were disappointed not to have done better on the day, we can be very proud to be crowned Hampshire Champions and one of the last 24 clubs standing from an original national entry list of over 1,700. Well played boys it's been a pleasure.
