Winning the toss we chose to bat and Harry Gadd set about the bowling whipping the ball through mid-wicket - every inch our own KP! At the other end Daniel C got a good one but JB joined his skipper before Harry retired off only 22 balls. JB built patiently taking a run a ball until he expanded to find the boundary. Our cup finisher Harry Hoolahan played with aggression bashing 15 off 7 balls before being surprised by some extra bounce. Unfortunately for him, the loudest cheer of the day from Ryde came when Harry Leggett was removed without scoring - it showed what a prize wicket he was considered! Our final Harry (DM)played his best hand yet for us bashing 4 fours in a good knock of 26. When he and JB had departed it was left to Ollie and Harlan to see us home only for Ollie to be run out of the last ball going for an unlikely bye.
So set 127 to win Ryde had a difficult start and at 7 for 3 and 21 for 4 it looked a mountain to climb as Harry H hit the stumps and induced a skier for Dan C to pouch. Harlan again got a wicket with his first ball this time thanks to a stunning overhead catch from Harry G which started his tight spell in the perfect way. The last of the 4 wickets came thanks to Leggie's rocket arm and Ollie's quick hands. Through the middle period though Ryde's 5 & 6 batted really well and by the time they had retired Ryde were well set needing 7 or so an over off the last few. Our boys held their nerve though with Harry Gadd giving flight to snaffle a c&b, Daniel T bowled a good straight over and Daniel Cox increased his lead at the top of the wickets charts with two bowleds in two balls. The final over saw Harry H bowl 5 dots (and get hit for a good square drive for 4) to see us over the line 11 runs to the good.
Off to Horsham next to play either the Surrey or Kent top side.
