Match report A fantastic match - worthy of a semi final.
Asked to field we put in a mixed performance with some excellence and some not so good work. Initial in roads made by Harry G saw him having the Hampshire skipper stumped and following that up soon after with a bowled scalp. Harry Leggett was also amongst the wickets claiming a calm C&B from a skyer. The innings ended with our quicks back on top as HW & HH used pace and guile to get them 7 down at the innings close for 105.
Mutterings at the turnaround suggest that wasn't quite enough but with their opening pair of bowlers causing a few flutters Harry's G&W played really well to see them off and be able to expand when the changes came. HW retired having smoked a six to get us nearer the par score at half way. For once HG couldn't retire falling to a boundary catch and JB couldn't quite get going as we've come to expect. After an enterprising cameo, HL fell rather stretching for a hit. As score board pressure mounted we found HH and new partner OK needing 18 off 14 balls. Positive running saw us stay in touch but still second favourites. Until that is, HH picked up a leg stump ball to send it flat over square leg for 6. The final over saw 7 required for the win. The boys neatly found gaps to ensure a run a ball leaving 2 for the win off the last ball. Unbeknown, to the coach at least, one run from Harry's bat was enough to clinch things courtesy of having lost fewer wickets.
Onwards and upwards. To win the Cup we'll need to maintain our batting and bowling levels but perhaps tighten our fielding. Nevertheless well played all, we deserve the chance to challenge in the final.
