Havant v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 15B on Fri 06 May 2011 at 18.00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 9 runs

Match report The P&S partnership of captain Sam Collings-Wells and Tom Lavery opened the batting and from the off they set an impressive run rate, finding gaps in the field to reach the ropes and taking quick singles before Tom was bowled. Seb Herold took little time to settle in before he was hitting his trademark blows over the bowlers’ heads. Attempting one too many big hits, Seb was caught having scored a quick 10 runs. Charlie Corbett joined Sam in the middle to keep the scoreboard ticking over at over a run a ball until Sam retired out on an unbeaten 51 – a Captain’s innings indeed. Ben Caldera settled in a batting rhythm before his partner mis-timed his hit offering a simple catch. Both Joe Hawkins and Pat Sillence had very short stays at the crease, which unfortunately, seemed to lead to Ben’s early LBW dismissal for 12 runs. With only 2 overs left of the innings, and both Ollie Perrin and Charlie Cupples new to the crease, the two did well to raise the run rate with some opportunistic and nifty running between the wickets to end the innings on 123 for 6 wickets.
After a short turnaround for tea, P&S took to the field, and under a darkening evening sky, Sam tossed the new ball to Charlie Cupples and Ben Jackson to open the bowling. Both did well, particularly Ben who took 2 wickets however, despite the best efforts of the follow on bowlers, Havant opening bat James Christian continued to plunder runs before retiring on 51 runs. Ollie Perrin, bowling from the Town End, was unfortunate not to get a wicket. He was replaced by Harrison Whitworth whose leg spin bowling took 2 wickets. In tandem with Harrison, racing in from the Station End, Seb Herold bowled his 3 overs with genuine pace and, despite his improving accuracy he did not get the breakthrough his efforts deserved. In the final overs of the game, and in the last embers of the day’s light, Charlie Corbett skittled out the Havant tail for a lowly 8 runs to end the innings and the game.
A pleasing victory to start the season, with plenty of positives. Batting and bowling orders still need to find their balance for best combinations, but this will come with every match. Well done.
